Now Comic Market, Comiket for short, the season is coming soon! Here is an archive of charismatic cosplayer Enako’s footage video on TV.
Professional Cosplaer Enako confessed her shocking income of 10 million yen (US$97,763) in just two days of summer Comic Market. She appeared on the T.V. program’s Otaku Report segment on September 14 and confirmed she does in fact make a living doing only Cosplay.
These sort of international events are known to pay of well for popular cosplayers, however her actual net profit is unknown due to factors like self-promotion and production costs that went into her recent success. Enako elaborated that she makes about 300,000 to 400,000 yen (US$2,933-3,910) per stage event or over 1 million yen (US$9,776) a month. After the show, Enako tweeted about the discussion and thanked those who tuned in.
“With this broadcast, I’m so happy that you all have even a little interest in Comiket and Cosplay. Thank you to those who watched. Also, I’m really sorry if my way of talking or choice of words was bad or discomforting to you. I wanted to talk more about anime and cosplay, but…it’s difficult!”
Those are some eye-popping numbers for what’s ordinarily thought of as a fun way to express your love for your favorite animated show. A second look at what she’s saying, though, makes it all seem pretty logical though. Enako’s earnings come from sponsors paying for her to endorse their product or event, and also by creating and selling photo collections. In other words, take a step back from the fact that those products are anime and video game-related, and it’s clear that while Enako is referred to as a cosplayer, she’s actually working in commercial modeling, an industry where incomes like hers aren’t at all unheard of for top-level talent.
